About us
Birth of Reason grew out of Judi Weisbart’s decades of work in art, activism, nonprofit leadership, and community connection.
-
Judi Weisbart is a Santa Barbara artist, activist, community connector, and founder of Birth of Reason.
For decades, Judi has worked across sculpture, nonprofit leadership, event production, fundraising, and community organizing. Her work has included supporting nonprofits, producing mission-driven events, speaking at community gatherings, creating large-scale public art, and helping connect people and organizations working toward meaningful change.
Birth of Reason is the latest evolution of Judi’s lifelong belief that art can help people connect more deeply to one another.
-
A storytelling platform rooted in art, conversation, and human connection founded by Judi Weisbart.
At its core, Birth of Reason is an engine for attention, and therefore an engine for change.
An artist-led platform that brings together:
“The World Series” sculptures exploring global issues through assemblage art
Conversations with artists, activists, thinkers, and changemakers
“Incredible Humans” interviews spotlighting people creating real impact
Youth artist features, mentorship, and creative opportunities
Substack essays, reflections, and community storytelling
Video conversations and social media content designed to amplify thoughtful voices
Art and dialogue intended to deepen empathy, curiosity, and connection
Birth of Reason believes too many important voices, especially women, young people, artists, and underserved communities, have historically received too little visibility and support.
-
Birth of Reason uses storytelling, conversation, and media to help connect people with artists, changemakers, and humanitarian causes.
Through the platform, we:
Interview artists, activists, humanitarians, educators, nonprofit leaders, and emerging creatives
Share thoughtful conversations through Substack, video, social media, and public events
Spotlight youth artists alongside established voices
Connect artists with opportunities, resources, and practical guidance
Highlight organizations and community leaders creating meaningful impact
Partner with nonprofits and initiatives, especially throughout the greater Santa Barbara area
Create community-centered storytelling designed to deepen empathy and inspire action
Amplify causes, projects, and people we believe deserve greater visibility and support
Birth of Reason is led by founder Judi Weisbart alongside host, interviewer, and creative collaborator Belle Hahn, whose thoughtful storytelling voice helps shape many of the platform’s conversations.

“The World Series” is a collection of assemblage sculptures by Judi Weisbart exploring global issues through symbolism, found objects, and mixed materials.
Each piece centers a different human or environmental challenge while incorporating the image of the Earth as a reminder that these stories ultimately belong to all of us.
Over time, the series became the artistic and emotional foundation for Birth of Reason: a platform built around conversation, empathy, and human connection.
-
At Birth of Reason, we use the phrase “Incredible Humans” for people whose work and way of moving through the world remind us what human beings are capable of.
These are artists, activists, educators, nonprofit leaders, humanitarians, and community builders whose work is creating tangible impact in the lives of others and in the communities they serve.
Through interviews and conversations, we share their stories not because they are perfect, but because they remind us what people are capable of when they lead with empathy, courage, and purpose.
-
Birth of Reason believes young artists deserve to be taken seriously early, not years after their creative voices have already formed.
Through our Youth Artists initiative, we spotlight emerging creatives on the same platform as established artists, activists, and changemakers because we believe younger voices belong in larger cultural conversations too.
Beyond visibility, we share practical resources directly with artists and families, including portfolio guidance, creative opportunities, community connections, artist calls, financial insight, and real-world advice drawn from Judi Weisbart’s decades of experience as both an artist and community builder.
Our goal is not simply to celebrate young artists. It is to help support them in building sustainable creative lives, stronger confidence in their work, and meaningful connection to a larger artistic community.
-
Birth of Reason exists because founder Judi Weisbart came to believe that art and conversation can help people connect to one another in ways politics, outrage, and division often cannot.
After decades of work in art, activism, nonprofit leadership, and community-building, Judi saw how many people felt isolated from one another, overwhelmed by global problems, and disconnected from meaningful dialogue.
Birth of Reason was created as a response to that feeling.
The platform brings together storytelling, sculpture, interviews, youth voices, and community conversation to help direct more attention toward empathy, creativity, human rights, and the people working to make a positive difference in the world.
At its core, Birth of Reason exists to remind people that compassion, curiosity, and connection still matter, and that small conversations can still create meaningful change.
-
Birth of Reason is community-funded and made possible through sponsors, donations, and people who believe meaningful storytelling still matters.
We operate through the nonprofit umbrella of LifeChronicles Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) organization (EIN: 77-0256868).
Every interview, youth artist feature, essay, conversation, and piece of content we create is supported by people choosing to invest in creativity, empathy, and human connection.
Supporters can contribute in a number of ways, including becoming a Premier Sponsor, Show Sponsor, Executive Producer, or paid subscriber to our Substack.

“The Fable of the Egg” sits quietly at the heart of Birth of Reason. You can read the poem here.
Part poem and part origin story, it grew from a moment Judi Weisbart experienced during an international women’s peace gathering in Geneva, where a painted egg passed from hand to hand during a conversation about fear, war, grief, and peace.
Over time, the egg became a symbol of shared humanity, fragile possibility, and the responsibility we carry toward one another and the Earth itself.
From that moment, Birth of Reason slowly began to take shape.
Birth of Reason’s
Egg Necklace
The Egg Necklace grew out of the same moment that inspired Birth of Reason itself: Judi Weisbart’s experience at the 2002 Global Women’s Peace Initiative in Geneva.
Created in 2003, the necklace became a symbol of shared humanity, compassion, and the possibility of creating something better together.
Over the years, it has been worn by artists, activists, educators, humanitarians, and women leaders including Jane Goodall, Susan Sarandon, Eve Ensler, and Sister Helen Prejean.
Today, it remains both a piece of wearable art and a quiet reminder of connection, responsibility, and hope.
